Super Bowl Halftime Show Is Finally Official – Maroon 5, Travis Scott & Big Boi
Although it’s been rumored for months, the NFL has finally confirmed Maroon 5 will headline the Pepsi Super Bowl LIII halftime show, featuring special guests Travis Scott and Outkast’s Big Boi, who is from Atlanta, where the Super Bowl is being held.
Before the official announcement Billboard reported Travis only agreed to perform after the NFL made a $500,000 donation to an organization fighting for social justice. Travis later revealed the NFL would be making a donation to Dream Corps, an organization working on things like reducing jail populations and creating career opportunities for communities.
“I back anyone who takes a stand for what they believe in," Scott said in a statement. "I know being an artist that it’s in my power to inspire. So before confirming the Super Bowl Halftime performance, I made sure to partner with the NFL on this important donation. I am proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will hopefully inspire and promote change.”
Many believe the donation was in response to the backlash Travis received for agreeing to participate in light of the controversy surrounding Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the National Anthem.Superbowl LIII is set for Sunday, February 3rd at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
