The Chainsmokers, Rihanna & Twenty One Pilots Win Big At The iHeart Radio Music Awards
Another star-studded iHeartRadio Music Awards took place last night with several artists walking way with multiple awards. The big winners of the night included The Chainsmokers, who walked away with four trophies, including Best New Artist and Best Dance Recording for “Closer,” featuring Halsey; Rihanna, who also won four awards, including Best R&B Artist and Best R&B album for “Anti” and Twenty One Pilots, another four-trophy winner in categories like Best Duo/Group of the Year, as well as three trophies in the Alternative Rock category.
Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake won the coveted Song of the Year prize for “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” noting that he had wanted to write a song about “inclusion.” “If you are black or you are brown or you are gay or you are lesbian or you are trans — or maybe you’re just a sissy singing boy from Tennessee,” he said. “Anyone that is treating you unkindly, it is only because they are afraid or they have been taught to be afraid of how important you are because being different means you make the difference. So f— ’em.”Bruno Mars was honored with the iHeartRadio Innovator Award, an honor bestowed previously to Timberlake, U2 and Pharrell Williams. At first he wowed the crowd with a medley that included “Treasure” and his latest hit “That’s What I Like.” After he took a moment to catch his breath, Bruno thanked his fans who he said made him “want to be a better songwriter, a better performer and a better entertainer" and he promised them he’s “just getting started.”
Ed Sheehan May Have The Year's Biggest Debut
Future may be setting records, but Ed Sheeran might have the year’s biggest debut so far. That’s what the experts are saying. His “Divide” album is heading for the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart. So far, the set – which dropped on March 3rd – looks like it’ll move anywhere from 350-thousand to 425 thousand units.
In the meantime, Sheeran’s Spotify streams are through the roof. He got almost 57-million streams on Friday alone – breaking the 29-million-stream record set by The Weeknd with his “Starboy” album. Ed even beat his own one-day record for streams. “Shape of You” got just over 10-million streams Friday, which beat the almost 8-million he got for the song in January.
We’ll see how it turns out for Ed this coming Sunday when the results will be announced.
Adele Is Married Now
Adele has finally confirmed what we all thought – she’s a married woman now. She and her longtime partner, Simon Konecki tied the knot.
The singer made the confession on stage in Brisbane while discussing the feeling of a new love. She said, “As bad as a breakup can be, as bitter and horrible and messy as it can be, that feeling when you first fall for someone is the best feeling on earth, and I am addicted to that feeling.” She then added, “Obviously I can’t go through with those feelings because I’m married now. I’ve found my next person.”
Simon and Adele have been together since 2011 and have a son named Angelo. Congratulations to the happy couple!
