Adele And David Bowie Win Big At Last Night’s GRAMMY Awards
The 59th Annual GRAMMY Awards are in the books, with Adele walking away the big winner, sweeping all the awards she was nominated for, including the major categories Album of the Year for “25," and Song of the Year and Record of the Year for “Hello."
Interestingly, Adele didn’t quite think she deserved her big Album of the Year award because she spent the whole time fighting back tears as she talked about Beyoncé and her album “Lemonade.” (Also, not sure if everyone caught it but she did refer to her partner Simon Konecki as her “husband” so maybe she did secretly get married as some of the mags have rumored.)
In the other major category of the night, Chance the Rapper took home Best New Artist Award, one of two awards he won last night.
When it came to sweeping, the late David Bowie pulled an Adele, winning all five awards for which he was nominated, including Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance for the track “Blackstar,” and Best Alternative Music Album for his final album of the same name, all of which marked the late singer’s first musical GRAMMY wins.
Host James Corden made quite an entrance basically falling down the stairs as he was making his way to stage. He eventually broke into a pretty funny rap (all the while missing one shoe) that even featured a crack at President Trump’s expense. Overall, Corden was a very affable host, and kept things moving nicely. His best bit, not surprising, was a Carpool Karaoke segment from the audience. James, wearing a fake car cut out, got J.Lo, Neil Diamond, Keith Urban, Jon Legend and more (even Blue Ivy) into the car and had them, and the entire Staples Center, singing Diamond’s classic “Sweet Caroline.”Two of the major highlights of the GRAMMYs were the tributes to Prince and George Michael, who both passed away last year. Michael was honored by Adele, who performed his song “Fastlove.” She began singing the tune off key and swore, and then started the whole song again because she didn’t want to do it badly for Michael. Of course, once she started over she blew it out of the park as she fought back tears.Meanwhile, Prince’s tribute featured The Time performing “Jungle Love” and “The Bird,” which had the audience (even Jay-Z) dancing in the aisles. Then, after Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” intro, Bruno Mars, dressed in a Prince-like purple sequined jacket, took over to perform a rousing version of the classic track, complete with Prince-like guitar solo at the end. An absolutely fitting tribute to the legend.
Katy Perry Sets New Spotify Record
Katy Perry released her new single “Chained to the Rhythm” on Friday, and it turns out a lot of people were excited to listen to it. According to Spotify, it set a new first-day streaming record for a female artist with 3,062,293 streams following its release.
The tune, which was not only released on Spotify but on Apple Music, Amazon, SoundCloud, Tidal, and more, is the first single from Katy’s yet-to-be-announced new album. She performed it live for the first time last night on the GRAMMY Awards.
Adam Levine Gets His Star On The Walk Of Fame
Adam Levine is the latest celebrity to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Levine’s wife Behati Prinsloo and five-month-old daughter Dusty Rose were on hand to support the Maroon 5 frontman during his Friday ceremony, as was his friends, and fellow “The Voice” coaches Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani.
“This is crazy – I’m not gonna downplay and pretend that it’s not the coolest thing ever that this is happening,” Adam told the crowd. “I have a daughter, I have the most beautiful wife in the entire world. I’m one of the luckiest people who’s ever lived and it has nothing to do with me, it has to do with the people who love me the most. And so I thank all of those people.”
Blake was on hand to salute Levine, noting that their relationship is “one of the most important” in life. He noted, “If you would have told me then that this guy was going to end up being one of my best friends, I would’ve called you crazy.” Of course, Blake also took the opportunity to get in a few jokes, cracking, ““Imagine my disappointment when I found out that this isn’t a roast.”
