Franklin, OH – At the Franklin City Council meeting on Monday, July 15, 2024, Lifeguards Olivia and Jordan were honored with Acts of Valor awards for their heroic actions that saved the life of a young girl at the local pool. The awards recognize their quick thinking, composure, and bravery during a medical emergency.
On the afternoon of June 19th, 2024, Medic 16 was dispatched to the Franklin pool following reports of a seizure. Upon arrival, paramedics were directed to a 6-year-old girl who had suffered a seizure while in the junior pool. Lifeguard Olivia noticed the emergency and immediately blew her whistle to alert everyone. As she approached the water, Lifeguard Jordan quickly jumped into the pool, rescued the child, and handed her off to Olivia. Olivia kept the young girl elevated and calm until paramedics arrived, providing them with a detailed and composed handoff report. Her swift and precise actions were crucial in ensuring the child's safety.
Chief Stitzel praised the lifeguards, stating, "The quick actions and calm composure of Olivia and Jordan made a crucial difference in the outcome of this emergency. Their dedication to their roles and their exceptional response in a high-stress situation exemplify true heroism."
Vice Mayor Todd Hall added, "We are incredibly proud of Olivia and Jordan. Their bravery and professionalism are commendable, and their actions undoubtedly saved a young life. It's an honor to recognize them with Acts of Valor awards."
