2020 Florida Python Bowl Challenge

MIAMI, Fla. (WPEC) -- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis participated in the launch of the 2020 Florida Python Bowl Challenge Friday morning.

The State of Florida, along with Miami Super Bowl Host Committee and other partners are joining together to support the Committee’s Ocean to Everglades (O2E) initiative. The Python Bowl, starting Jan. 10, 2020, is a conservation effort aimed at protecting the Everglades from invasive snakes.

"The protection of our environment and natural resources is critical,” said Governor DeSantis. “Invasive Burmese pythons have decimated local wildlife and pose a massive threat to natural food chains and flora and fauna. The 2020 Python Bowl is sure to be a great success, and I look forward to the positive effects it will have on preserving and protecting the Everglades ecosystem.”

DeSantis also told media that the python contractors will be able to access over 150 miles of secondary trails in Big Cypress National Park. If you would like to register for the Python Bowl, visit herefor information on training, the competition and more.
