Cincinnati Reds outfielder Yasiel Puig's bat can't possibly taste good. Maybe it's not licking-an-envelope bad, but he's even acknowledged in urging kids not to follow his bat-licking example that "it's nasty."
But in video shared via Twitter on Thursday evening by FOX Sports Ohio, Puig suggested that he uses his imagination when he licks his bat - and pretends it tastes like ice cream, with vanilla among his favorites - when he partakes in his bizarre superstition.
Puig gave a similar explanation- also mentioning ice cream - when asked last May about his bat licking.
Puig's teammate, Derek Dietrich, told Chris Rose and Kevin Millar during MLB Network's Intentional Talk on Thursday that Puig is "just a blast to be on the same field with, in the same clubhouse with" - and pointed out that he's not related to Dietrich's girlfriend, tennis player Monica Puig.
