We spent so much time the past two weeks telling you that the horses Maximum Security and Country House would not be running in this weekend’s Preakness Stakes, that we forgot to mention which jockeys wouldn’t be.
And we found out Saturday that jockey John Velazquez would not be running in the Preakness.
Problem was, his horse still did.
Watch as Bodexpress goes sideways out of the gate and immediately throws Velasquez from his mount before his fourth hoof even hits the Baltimore turf.
But then watch the next clip of the entire race because once unencumbered by his jockey, the beautiful horse ran wherever he darn well pleased. At one point he even appeared to be a contender in the 13-horse race.
And I, for one, found it darn well pleasing, especially in the third turn when a trainer comes out to corral Bodexpress, but the colt runs away and back to the pack—looking to finish what he started.
In fact, that is when Bodexpress sped up and passed a few competitors near the finish line and kept going. In fact, he ran the entire track again before finally calling it a day—a veritable victory lap for the social media champion who was still trending on Twitter hours later.
Wow,War Of Will may have won the 149th Preakness, but Bodexpress won the war of wills.
