BILLY JOEL: A Family Cover Up

posted by Jeff, Kristi & Dave -

Those in attendance at Billy Joel's monthly show at New York's Madison Square Garden last Saturday may have been wondering if they were going to get a night of his songs or those by others, as he did eight covers, six of which were among the show's first 11 songs.

He did Prince's "1999," two by The Beatles -- "When I'm Sixty-Four" and "Nowhere Man" -- Elton John's "Tiny Dancer," The Marcels' "Blue Moon" and Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir."

From there, the show was heavy on his own songs, including a duet with his daughter Alexa Ray on "Baby Grand," which he hadn't performed at a public concert since 1996. But there were two more covers late in the show -- Puccini's "Nessun Dorma" and Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll."
