Food Recall: JIF Peanut Butter

  • Several Jif peanut butter products have been recalled due to a salmonella outbreak at a processing plant in Lexington, Kentucky.
  • J.M. Smucker Company issued the recall on Friday. The FDA and CDC are investigating the outbreak that has spread to 12 states so far, making 14 ill and hospitalizing 2.
  • The Jif peanut butter recalled includes the creamy, crunchy, and natural varieties. The jars have lot code numbers between 1274425 – 2140425 and include the numbers 425 for the 5th-7th digits, meaning the jars were processed in the Lexington facility.
  • The FDA says you should throw the peanut butter out and thoroughly clean and sanitize anything with which the peanut butter may have come in contact. For full details visit FDA.gov.
