It appears that a new Fall Out Boy era is upon us, and the band slyly announced it by placing a cryptic ad in the Chicago Tribune. Fans shared photos on social media of the black and white full page ad that simply says "FOB 8" at the top and "If you build it, they will come" below the fold. The yet-to-be-announced album will be the follow-up to 2018's M A N I A.
Although we have no details yet about new music, one thing's for sure: don't expect any vintage Fall Out Boy. GuitaristΒ Joe TrohmanΒ recently revealed that they wereΒ working on βguitar-basedβ new music, but that's been put on the "back burner."
βWe were working on some stuff that was guitar-based. I donβt know know whatβs happening with it," he toldΒ Rolling StoneΒ in September. "I think it unfortunately went to the back burner. It would be nice to make a record where the guitar is a little more upfront." Later, TrohmanΒ reflected on the band's old soundΒ and how he doesn't necessarily want to go back to it again. βWe did start that way, as a guitar-based rock band, and itβd be cool to go back to those roots. Weβd have to find a way to do it that doesnβt sound like Fall Out Boy from 2005," he continued. "It might be cool for somebody else to do that, but it wouldnβt be cool for us to do it.β
