Darius Rucker Speaks Out Following His Friend Tiger Woods' Car Accident

Darius Rucker is confident his longtime friend Tiger Woods will “get better” following the pro golfer’s devastating car accident.

The country singer shared his feelings and hopes for Woods’ safe recovery after the legendary athlete was involved in a rollover collision in Los Angeles on Tuesday (February 23). Woods, who has since been transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to be treated for the significant injuries he suffered in the wreck, currently remains awake and responsive.

In a recent TV appearance on Today, Rucker recalled getting the call about the crash. “When it first happened, you’re all worried about his health, but now that we know what’s going on, I think Tiger is such a strong guy. If the question is will Tiger play again…I say if Tiger wants to play again, he’ll play again. I just want him to get better, get healthy.”

For those who don't know, Rucker and Woods first struck up a friendship at a Michigan bar in the '90s and have been buds ever since.

As previously reported, because Woods was trapped in his SUV by the steering wheel that had been pushed into his lap, firefighters had to use the jaws of life to recover the 45-year-old from the crushed vehicle. Woods had to undergo surgery following the accident, which involved inserting a rod into his right leg as well as the use of pins and screws to repair his ankle and foot, which shattered in the crash.

Due to the severity of his injuries, an insider close to Woods told PEOPLE that the star’s golfing career could be at stake. "He doesn't want his career to end like this," said the source. "So if there's any way at all that he can continue playing golf, he will."
