Prince George Is All Smiles in His 5th Birthday Portrait

Although all eyes may currently be on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, as the new Duchess of Sussex tries to navigate the unfamiliar waters of being party of the Royal Family, and Prince Louis' recent christening, today (July 22) is all about Prince George of Cambridge. It's his 5th birthday, after all.

Though the future king's shyness was on full display during the Royal Wedding in May, he was nothing but smiles for his annual portrait to celebrate his birthday. Photographer Matt Porteous snapped the photo in the garden of Clarence House after George’s baby brother, Prince Louis, was christened on July 9.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share a new photograph of Prince George to mark His Royal Highness’s fifth birthday tomorrow,” Kensington Palace said in a statement Saturday (July 21).

On Friday (July 20), a never-before-seen photo of Prince George started circulating the internet. The picture shows his father, William, and grandfather, Prince Charles, posing with the infant prince and will be part of an upcoming exhibit to celebrate Prince Charles' 70th birthday in November titled 'Prince & Patron.'

“The display aims to show the public the prince’s long-standing passion for art and the way this has been channeled into the creation and understanding of art charities,"  Vanessa Remington, senior curator of paintings at the Royal Collection, told People. The family photos are meant to add a personal touch to the exhibition.
