Watch Neal Schon Join Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Phil Collen for G3 Show

Journey guitarist Neal Schon recently lent his chops to the shred guitar extravaganza known as G3.

Schon hopped onstage at G3's Oakland, California, stop at the Fox Theater alongside G3 tour founder Joe Satriani, Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci and Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen.

So in case you ever wondered how much lead guitar you could take, this is a good place to test yourself.

Indeed, the Oakland audience got to see four of the most influential rock and metal guitarists of all-time in one night. And even if you're not into that kind of thing, you've got to admit it's an interesting experiment.

Satriani, Petrucci, Collen and Schon each have unique styles, tones and signature guitars. How they play off of one another to try and keep the whole thing together is impressive. It's pretty clear that with lesser talents, the whole thing would devolve into a you-know-what-measuring contest.

It sort of is that anyway, but oh well.

Meanwhile, this might not be the only time this year Schon and Collen share a stage. Schon indicated over the weekend that a big tour announcement is coming "soon," concerning his band's 2018 plans with Def Leppard

Schon and Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott are scheduled to be in New York City this week meeting with press to announce a world tour.

The tour is expected to keep both bands occupied for up to six months.
