Twenty-seven of Prince's former bandmates created a virtual collaboration as a birthday salute to their late leader.
On Sunday, the day that Prince would have turned 62, an all-star ensemble led by drummer Kirk Johnson posted their cover of "The Cross."
Tapping talent from The Revolution,New Power Generation and 3RDEYEGIRL in the midst of the unrest gripping Minneapolis and America with the backdrop of the global pandemic, the performance is presented as a message of hope, love and peace.
Beginning the project by reaching out to Prince’s fans via social media for song suggestion, Johnson found a consensus for "The Cross." The 27 musicians then recorded parts individually at home, with Johnson assembling them into a powerful and timely video.
